The Door
By Paulette Beete
Response

On the other side of the door the heart is not an open wound.
On the other side of the door the tongue has all the right words.
On the other side of the door the womb is more than a placeholder.
On the other side of the door these hands are greedily optimistic.
On the other side of the door the belly rounds with desire not hunger.
On the other side of the door the shoulders sing songs of forgiveness.
On the other side of the door the feet don’t walk straight toward the quicksand.
On the other side of the door the back is not busy leaving.
On the other side of the door the mouth is not full of sighs and sobs and groanings.
The body on the other side of the door is neither liar nor betrayer, neither left behind nor carelessly misplaced.
On the other side of the door someone calls the body beloved until it recognizes itself.

The image is absolutely gorgeous and the words open up as many possibilities as we can imagine.
