When the Celebration Ends
By Neil Ellman
Response

We littered the streets
with broken glass
remnants of the night before
the eve of a holiday
none of us could name
making love to the cold night air
none of tus could feel
or feel embarrassed
by the words we sang
hanging the notes
on the traffic light
changing from red to green
from one to two
and back again
we danced on glass
and drank cheap wine
none of us could taste
the night remembered
in a trance
better than the life we lead
in the light of day
with half-forgotten dreams
when we were young.

This pairing renders the mundane and the profound both lyrically and visually to striking effect. Great work!
