BIRDS

There must be birds
beyond the horizon. We feel
their wings beating in the wind,
hear their murmured conversations
roll ashore in waves, and it grieves us
who remain rooted to the still earth.

I like the way the image suggests rootedness and wings at the same time. And the colors seem to mirror the mood of the poem as well. Lovely pairing!

I love Sandy’s interpretation of the poem. The colors suggest sea and sky, and the figures, though still rooted, seem ethereal, ready to fly.
