“I Try Not to Act Bitter”

Response

Sometimes I Lie
By Amy Souza

Inspiration piece

I picked snap peas in the rain and Dan said I looked miserable

No difference between good and bad

Changing a life is too hard

When I met Lin-Manuel Miranda, I turned out to be nobody

I try not to act bitter

The peas need a day off the vine to reveal their sweetness

I don’t want to die

People fear high wind but I like the chaos of out-of-control chimes

At night, I kneel by my bedside and write notes to myself

I have no interest in frenemies

Two thumbs way up. Love what Diane Mayr did with the piece. Beautiful ending, second to last sentence.
