Castle with Sun
By Frank Gibson

Inspiration Piece

A Goddess Once
By Neil Ellman

Response

Where a fortress stood

Beside the alien sea

Arrogant towers

Turrets pointing

To the sky

As if in prayer

Defend their gods

And goddesses

Their pride.

There is nothing left

Only stones

Weathered by time

Where worshippers walked

To kneel

Submit and plea

A goddess

Glorious and magical

Whose face and voice

Are now erased

By wind.

The sun still rises

As empires die

As deities die

Where their fortress stood.

The image and the poem both take me away to another time and bring me back again to wonder at it the journey.
