TORA ESTEP, BLINDED BY THE GODDESS
Inspiration piece

Response
Ground Truth
after Tora Estep’s “Blinded by the Goddess”
We are one, after all, you and I, together we suffer,
together exist and forever will recreate each other.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
The body is an imperfect shield
full of apertures
The majority cannot afford
to smother ourselves
with silence
blinding our being
to injustices
that masquerade
as change
We cannot forget
those yellow whispers
their jaundiced refrains
cowardice and deceit
Misfortune is unpredictable
narrows a person’s perspective
makes us generalize our empathies
Shadows of anguish
darkened doorsteps
we spin our fears
into air that boils
our collective breath
funnels grief deep
through the breast bone
Wish it were not so
Turn about
face the prowl of search light
listen to the deafening alarm
Come now
we need every eye
to view each other whole
Place your hands
in mine
so that we can hear you
speak your mind
